What means "activity level (K1, K2…)" ?

The activity level (K) of an amputee indicates which type of prosthesis will suit him best. There are 5 activity levels. These levels are determined by the amputee’s lifestyle: does he stay at home? Does he need to move often? Does he practice sports? These questions will determine which type of prosthesis will be the best to meet the needs of the fitted person. K-levels are a rating system used by Medicare in USA to indicate a person’s rehabilitation potential. Levels definitions are as follows : KO, the patient does not have the ability or potential to ambulate or transfer safely with or without assistance and a prosthesis does not enhance their quality of life or mobility. This level does not warrant a prescription for a prosthesis.  K1, the patient has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis for transfers or ambulation on level surfaces at fixed cadence. K2, the patient has the ability or potential for ambulation with the ability to traverse low level environmental barriers such as curbs, stairs or uneven surfaces. This is typical of the limited community ambulator. K3, the patient has the ability or the potential for ambulation with variable cadence. A person at level 3 is typically a community ambulator who also has the ability to traverse most environmental barriers and may have vocational, therapeutic or exercise activity that demands prosthetic use beyond simple locomotion. K4, the patient has the ability or potential for prosthetic ambulation that exceeds basic ambulation skills, exhibiting high impact, stress or energy level. This is typical of the prosthetic demands of the child, active adult or athlete.

What does it mean « to withstand a load up to 150kg / 330 lbs »?

The resistance and good functioning of the Hytrek knee is proved by tests with a load of 150 kg /330 lbs as regard the NF EN ISO 10328-E standard of 2006. This load corresponds to the total load : i.e. the weight of the amputee + the weight of a carried load. For example, an amputee weighing 100 kg (220 lbs) can use Hytrek while carrying a load of 50 kg (110 lbs). CAUTION : Carrying a load modifies the knee behavior while braking and may require changes in the brake settings : please contact your CPO.

Can we kneel down with a Hytrek knee ?

Yes. The flexion angle up to 120° enables you to be on your knees. An optional protective device can be positioned on the Hytrek knee if the prosthesis is not worn with a foam cover. It protects the knee from possible small shocks due to the contact with the ground (concrete, gravel, soil …). It also protects the clothes if the prosthesis is worn without cosmetic cover.
